Immerse yourself in a serene and introspective experience with our Journaling by the Brook workshop. Surrounded by the tranquil beauty of nature, this guided session encourages you to slow down, reflect, and express your thoughts on paper.

Your journal is a unique extension of yourself—a playful, helpful, and adventurous tool to unlock your creativity, gain clarity, and foster a deeper connection with your inner self.

Breathing by the Sea

Breathing by the sea - surfing the waves of your life with mindful breathing
Fisherman’s Point, South Portland

Life can be like the ocean. Waves can tumble us about. Mindful breathing can be an anchor and a refuge when the waves of our lives are stormy. When we focus our awareness on the breath in a totally immersed way, we cultivate the experience of inner peace that we can always return to.

Yoga instructor Susannah Sanfilippo will help us explore our breathing habits by feeling what is actually happening in the body. She'll also share with us ways to create well-functioning breathing to help regulate the swirling waves of our mind.

Wear layers. Bring something to sit on, such as a blanket or chair. To register: https://www.southportlandlandtrust.org/upcoming-events/breathingmeditation

Awe Walk in Dow's Woods

Watch the clouds. Sense the wind on your face. Touch the petals of a flower. Feel the warmth of the sun on your back. Take in the woodsy aromas. Tune into the sounds of winged creatures. Observe the ripples on the surface of the water. Notice the chatter in your brain turning down as you tune into your senses.
Awe is a complex emotion that research suggests can calm the nervous system, reduce inflammation and foster a sense of community, and might help you feel more upbeat and hopeful.

Susannah Sanfilippo will lead us on a mindful exploration designed to awaken your senses and cultivate a deep sense of wonder. Escape the everyday hustle and reconnect with the awe-inspiring power of the natural world on this hour-long walk through Dow's Woods Trail.

Susannah is a long-time yoga and mindfulness instructor and Portland resident. Her adventures throughout the Greater Portland area and sensory awareness practices have deepened her intimacy with the natural surroundings. Mindfulness Walk: Take your senses for a walk!

Mindfulness Walk: Take your senses for a walk!

This walk is about the journey, not the destination. Research is clear that time outdoors can reduce stress, settle the mind, and contribute to increased physical and psychological well-being; mindfulness heightens the experience of being outdoors. We will hone our attention to nourish our connection to ourselves and all living things around us. This walk is not geared toward nature identification but rather opening our senses to nature’s language. We'll begin with a breathing practice and a short standing meditation designed to help us focus and then walk, with a curiosity of sights, sounds, and sensations, interspersed with brief exercises to deepen the experience. Beginners welcome. Choose footwear and clothing appropriate for weather conditions. We will meet at the Providence Ave. entrance to the preserve. More Info/Register

At the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine, as part of the event - SAFE HARBOR: RESOURCES, RELIEF, AND RESILIENCE., we’ll hold three breakout sessions on Zoom:

Whether your grief is anticipatory, ambiguous, simple, or complex, it is highly personal and can have a major physical and emotional impact. It is common to experience grief as fatigue, confusion and loneliness. Since emotions are physiological events, grief resides in the body. We will use conscious breathing, somatic mindfulness, gentle yoga and stillness as a way to open to the grief process. FYI and to register.

Meditative Singing @ Yogave

Join me for meditative singing of sanskrit mantras every week for 25 minutes before we move into asana practice at 5:30! “If you want to be in optimum emotional health, realize that social isolation stands between you and it. Reach out to others. Join groups—to drum, meditate, sing, sew, read, whatever. Find communities—to garden, do service work, travel, whatever. We humans are social animals. Spontaneous happiness is incompatible with social isolation. Period.” ― Andrew Weil
